Decathlon Down Puffer Jackets - Forclaz MT100 vs. Forclaz Trek 100

In 2023, Decathlon’s Forclaz Trek 100 Down Jacket was rebranded to the Decathlon Forclaz MT100 Hooded Down Puffer Jacket (here in the U.S.). I bought the Trek 100 in 2021 and absolutely loved the jacket for its affordability, durability, packability, and warmth.

Does the MT100 have the same fit and features? In this post, I do a side-by-side comparison of the (2023) MT100 and (2021) Trek 100.

If you’d like to see my long-term YouTube review of the Trek 100 jacket (now known as the MT100), click here.

The Jacket’s Rebrand/Renaming

I noticed the Decathlon Forclaz Trek 100’s rebrand/name change in mid-2023 when clicking its link in my YouTube Review. The jacket’s webpage page no longer mentioned the Forclaz Trek 100; it now displayed the Forclaz MT100. However, the entire webpage and jacket’s features seemed exactly the same - it looked like Decathlon simply changed the jacket’s name, updated its colors, and added a marketing video.

I reached out to Decathlon Customer Service about this, and they replied:

So yes, the MT100 is simply an updated Trek 100, right? To be sure, I asked the same question on the MT100’s webpage Q&A section:

After this reply, I became a bit confused! The person who answered me didn’t seem to be aware of the Trek 100 at all. Hence, I decided to see for myself if there were any differences between the two jackets.

Disclaimer: Decathlon sent me the MT100, but had no input in the creation of this post.

Details

The following feature details are from my original Trek 100 blog post. I checked the MT100’s webpage and confirmed that these specs are still exactly same:

  • Price: The price of the $99.99 USD

  • Main fabric/lining: 100% polyamide

  • Padding - Inner fabric: 100% polyester cationic

  • Filled with 15% grey duck feather and 85% grey duck down

  • The down is RDS certified (which means the feathers are from certified farms that treat geese and ducks humanely) and has a fill power of 800

  • Water repellent (not waterproof)

  • Weight: ~10.2oz (men’s size Medium)

  • Two zippered side pockets

  • Elastic wrist cuffs

  • One center zipper

  • Can pack into its own pocket

  • Can keep you warm between 23F and 41F

  • Adjustable bottom

Here are a couple photos comparing the two jackets side-by-side:

Fit/Looks

In the photos below, you’ll see that the jackets fit and look almost exactly the same. Can you see any differences? For reference, I’m 5’10” and wearing a size Large in both jackets:

The MT100 felt a tiny bit roomier overall, but you can barely tell!

Differences

I spotted a few differences between the jackets, but they’re very minor:

1.) All zipper ties are longer on the MT100

2.) The MT100 contains an updated FORCLAZ logo (I like the Trek 100’s version better)

3.) The MT100 does not have the “Designed & Tested in Mont-Blanc Valley” tag with the French flag colors. I thought this tag was a nice touch on the Trek 100

4.) The MT100 has a bunch of text on the inside of the jacket, while the Trek 100 does not. I would’ve preferred to learn about this info on the MT100’s webpage and not printed on the jacket, but it’s good to know that Decathlon is trying to be better for the environment!

5.) The MT100 appears and feels slightly bigger in general, which I also mentioned in the Fit/Looks section above

As I continue to thoroughly wear and test the MT100 over the next year, I’ll keep you posted if there are any considerable updates in terms of its durability.

Conclusion

After my investigation into these two jacket models, I believe Decathlon Customer Service’s reply to my initial inquiry is correct. The Forclaz MT100 is the latest version (with a renaming) of the popular Forclaz Trek 100.

Despite a few minor cosmetic differences and the MT100’s slightly bigger fit, the MT100 and Trek 100 are pretty much the same.

I’ll continue to test the MT100 over the next year and report back if I find this 2023 version not being as durable as my 2021 version.

I hope this post helped clarify any thoughts that you might’ve had while comparing Decathlon’s Forclaz Trek 100 Down Jacket to the Decathlon Forclaz MT100 Hooded Down Puffer Jacket!

Happy journeying,

Jeremy
